Don Alfonso de Borbón y Borbón (1866-1934) was a descendant of King Charles III of Spain, the son of Dom Sebastian Gabriel of Bourbon and Braganza, a Prince of Portugal and Spain and a Carlist commander in the 1st Carlist War, and Maria Christina of Spain. 19th century Spanish royalty favoured longer and longer names for their children to incorporate as many saints names as possible, a trend that reached its zenith with Don Alfonso. The prince with 88 names married a commoner, Julia Mendez y Morales, and lost his claim to the Spanish throne.
